ILA USMX Strike ~ Demurrage and Detention ~ Potential Implications
September 17, 2024Elizabeth “Beth” Raymond
On behalf of the J.W. Allen & Company Family, it is with a heavy heart and our deepest sorrow that we share the following news.
Elizabeth ‘Beth’ Raymond, J.W. Allen’s long-time matriarch, sadly passed away on Friday November 8th, 2024.
Beth’s career with J.W. Allen & Company began December 01, 1978, when she started working in the export department handling break-bulk reefer movements to Egypt. Beth quickly progressed to handle a wide range of export clients and commodities. Beth’s high character, unwavering work ethic, and tireless efforts led to great success throughout her long career.
One fateful day 12 years later in 1990, Billy asked Beth to begin handling import shipments in addition to her export responsibilities. As she has done time and time again during her tenure, Beth accepted and rose to the challenge. In the years that followed, Billy would often share his thoughts with Beth regarding how good ‘Elizabeth Raymond, Customs House Broker’ sounds. Taking Billy’s not too subtle hints to heart, in 1993, Beth earned her Customs Brokers license and found a permanent home within the import department. Beth’s career culminated in her serving as the Vice President of Imports where she utilized her knowledge, wisdom, and experience to guide the import department into the future until her retirement on August 26, 2022.
While Beth’s work-related successes and accomplishments are too many to list, to focus solely on her professional triumphs would be doing her a tremendous injustice. Beth was a person of the highest quality and character on so many levels. While the following character traits may best describe Beth, they truly do not do her justice.
• Honesty
• Integrity
• Compassionate
• Loving
• Resilient
• Patient
• Loyalty
• Humility
• Honorable
Often at her own expense, Beth inherently put others first and deeply cared for those in her life, personally and professionally. Everyone Beth engaged was treated with respect and consideration regardless of the situation or circumstances. All who were fortunate to have crossed paths with Beth, were undoubtedly left with a long-lasting positive impression.
J.W. Allen’s Billy App proudly boasts about his track record for hiring incredible employees while always mentioning Beth. For those who were blessed to have Beth as a part of their lives, it’s easy to see why.
On behalf of the J.W. Allen & Company Family, Beth you are sorely missed and will always be deeply loved, and fondly remembered. While having you as a part of the J.W. Allen Family was an incredible experience, having you as a part of our lives on a personal level was a blessing. “We Love You Beth.”
